  • Channeling Itzhak Perlman

    Earlier this summer, Mustard Seed was honored to have a guest violinist come to play and work with some of our young people.

  • Being prepared

    And to help Mustard Seed to be prepared, a group of local Boy Scouts created a first aid kit for our use. We offer many thanks to these fine young men and their counselor.

  • Going shopping

    When there is food shopping to be done for Mustard Seed, we send out a small army to Sam's Club to clean out the aisles.

  • Paving the bike path

    A very popular attraction at the Mustard Seed house is our bicycle path. At any given time of the day, it is not unusual to see several kids spinning around on their bicycles. But, in time, the path had become broken up and rough to ride.

    We were blessed earlier this summer by a substantial gift [...]

  • Bear Mountain Zoo

    Something tells me it's all happening at the zoo;

    I do believe it; I do believe it's true.

    It's a light and tumble journey from the East Side to the Park;

    Just a fine and fancy ramble to the zoo.

    The monkeys stand for honestly, giraffes are insincere;

    and the elephants are kindly but they're dumb.

    You can take the crosstown [...]

  • Anchors Aweigh

    On Wednesday, July 28, 10 Mustard Seed kids had an afternoon of kayaking on Lake Waywayanda.  They demonstrated rather adept skills, for land lubbers.  Another fine Mustard Seed event.

  • "Hallelujah"

                     20th Anniversary song for the Mustard Seed Migrant Ministry

    We celebrate the RDC's, who came to plant a mustard seed

    Of hope, that only faith can give unto ya'

    You showed us from the very start, the love we carry in our hearts

    Can be transformed into a Hallelujah.

    You taught "da kids" to sing and pray, be thankful [...]

  • 20 years.

    On Sunday, July 4, about 200 people converged on the Mustard Seed house for a celebration of our 20th anniversary in the Warwick Valley.

    Songs; games; and great food puctuated the day. Among the party-goers were the leadership of the Sisters of the Divine Compassion, who were recognized and thanked for their vision in the establishment [...]

  • Over the Hudson River

    On Wednesday, July 7, 11 Mustard Seed kids, along with 3 members of King of Kings Lutheran Church from Liverpool, NY, took a stroll over the Hudson River. Over the Hudson River? How?

    We walked the new Walkway over the Hudson State Historic Park, that's how!

    The Walkway over the Hudson was an abandoned railroad bridge crossing the [...]

  • A day at camp

    On March 27, Camp Auxilium in Newton, NJ invited a group of Mustard Seed kids to come and play. Upon arrival the kids were greeted by the Salesian Sisters holding a huge Welcome! sign. On March 23, 2010, the Warwick Valley Telephone Company made a generous donation of 5 new bicycles to Mustard Seed. At their business meeting at the Raymond Hose Company in Warwick, employees of Warwick Valley Telephone built the bikes and prepared skits and songs to promote the bikes.

  • Gifts of the Maji

    Winter in the northeast can be snowy and cold and can sometimes work havoc on scheduling.  So it is with our annual Three Kings celebration. Preston High School tries to host the Mustard Seed  kids every year for Three Kings Day; or the Epiphany; which is January 6.  But, as has been the case [...]

  • Snow Tubing Redux

    Well, it was such a good idea and such a great time two weeks ago, so "Let's do it again".  This time we'll take more kids!

    So, Sunday, February 14, it was back to the Stony Ford Golf Course and Orange County Park for another day of snow tubing.

  • Visiting Pandora

    President's Day, Monday, February 15, was another one of those cold, damp days so common during winter in the Northeast. And, of course, it was a school holiday.  So, why not a day at the movies? And what movie would one want to see in the early days of 2010 other than Avatar?

    The kids were [...]

  • The Continuing Story of Randy Raccoon

    For about the past 4 or 5 months, Mustard Seed house has been the site of a recurring assault by particularly large and aggressive raccoon. Sisters Pam and Fran took to calling him Randy, but in spite of the familiarity of naming a wild animal as if he was a pet, this raccoon was far [...]

  • Going snow-tubing

    MSMM board member Colleen Reilly, and her husband Jim, have taken a leadership role in recreational activities at Mustard Seed.  They have been organizing men's volleyball games; family game nights; and other events.

    On Sunday, February 7, Collen and Jim took a group of our kids snow tubing. Orange County operates a fine snow tubing facility [...]
