The school buses are on the roads. The nights are turning cool. The pool is closed up. Incredibly, summer is over. Let’s revisit some of the sensational events in the summer of 2009 at Mustard Seed Migrant Ministry.
The Gratitude Garden was started by the kids. They grew various vegetables and salad items which they themselves consumed.

The pool was officially dedicated amid much fanfare.

High school and college students came and offered their services as companions to our youth. Among those who came were students from the Capuchin Franciscans; Kennedy High School and Pope John High School.

The ice cream truck stopped by often.

And of course there was the trip to Yankee Stadium.

All of this plus trips to the Sussex County Fair; to Splashdown beach; and to Action Park made 2009 a summer to cherish at MSMM.

Well, actually, here comes Mustard Seed Migrant Ministry to visit the Yankees. As part of Con Edison Youth Clinic at Yankee Stadium, Orange and Rockland Utilities funded a trip for MSMM to the new Yankee Stadium on August 11.

The kids were permitted to go on the field and actually had a practice session and workout with some of the Yankees coaches.

The kids had an oppotunity to throw, hit, and catch all on the Yankee Stadium field under the direction of Yankee coaches.

Former Yankee pitcher (and, more prominently, an All-Star Met pitcher) Dwight “Doc” Gooden signed photos for many of our kids.

Many thanks to our very generous benefactors from Orange and Rockland, for an outstanding day at the ballpark. Which included a Derek Jeter sighting!

Summertime and the living is easy; or at least, great fun and a very active time at Mustard Seed. The pool is getting prolific use; the outdoor games are in full swing; and birthday parties are always a highlight. Here are some photos of the summer action.
